The September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) was created by an Act of Congress, shortly after 9/11 to compensate the victims of the attack (or their families) in exchange for their agreement not to sue the airline corporations involved.

The legislation authorizes the fund to disburse a maximum of $7.375 billion, including operational and administrative costs, of U.S. government funds

The Victim Compensation Fund was designed to provide compensation to those who lived, worked, or went to school within the designated exposure zone in addition to those who worked on the rescue, recovery, and clean-up efforts after the attacks. This area encompasses lower Manhattan south of Canal Street.

If you were exposed to a qualifying injury or illness in the designated area from September 11, 2001 to May 30, 2002, you may be eligible for compensation from the VCF.

Remember, these claims are NOT limited to First Responders. If you lived or worked in the area, made deliveries into the area or were otherwise present within the designated time frame and suffered one of the many qualifying consequences, you could be able to apply for compensation from the Fund.

To date, the VCF has distributed nearly $7 billion in compensation to over 21,000 claimants.
