Former NFL player Chris Maragos wins $43.5 million in a lawsuit against doctors for medical negligence that ended his pro career. Maragos, a former captain and special teams ace for the Philadelphia Eagles, suffered a knee injury during the team's 2017 Super Bowl season.
In his lawsuit, Maragos claimed that doctors neglected additional damage to his knee, ultimately leading to the end of his NFL career. A Philadelphia jury agreed and ordered surgeon James Bradley to pay $29.2 million and Rothman Orthopaedics Institute to pay $14.3 million. Maragos expressed gratitude for the verdict and stated, "we had the truth on our side and the jury saw it."

During the two-week trial, attorneys representing Rothman Orthopaedics Institute and James Bradley, who also served as the Pittsburgh Steelers team doctor for over three decades, argued that the second knee surgery former NFL defensive back Chris Maragos was seeking would have been detrimental to his health.
Maragos spent eight seasons in the NFL, playing for the San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, and the Philadelphia Eagles for four years, where he served as a captain and special teams ace.
The trial featured testimony from former Eagles players, such as quarterback Nick Foles, tight end Trey Burton, and linebacker Jordan Hicks, who shared their experiences and insights into Maragos' injury and subsequent treatment.
