The Department of Justice has investigated poultry companies for price-fixing violations in an ongoing inquiry.
A federal judge in Illinois granted a $181 million settlement between consumers and six poultry producers.
You are a Class Member if you purchased fresh or frozen raw chicken (defined as whole birds (with or without giblets), whole cut-up birds purchased within a package, or āwhite meatā parts including breasts and wings (or cuts containing a combination of these).
The chicken must have been purchased in California, District of Columbia, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island (after July 15, 2013), South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, and Wisconsin from January 1, 2009 (except for Rhode Island, which is from July 15, 2013), to July 31, 2019.

Tyson Foods, Pilgrimās Pride, Peco Foods, Fieldale Farms, Georgeās and Mar-Jac Poultry were the six producers who agreed to settle the consumer lawsuit.
The settlement amounts varied by company. Tyson and Pilgrimās paid the most, with contributions of $99 million and $75.5 million, respectively. Peco and Georgeās each contributed $1.9 million while Fieldale and Mar-Jac put in $1.7 million and $1 million, respectively.
Consumers are still pursuing claims against 12 additional poultry companies, including, among others, Koch Foods and Perdue Farms.
The judge determined cash compensation was preferable to coupons, which he noted could expire, according to Law360 reporting on this story.
The settlement will be available to millions of class members, with the vast majority notified via email.
